The car was built 42 years ago based on a MK3 Grantura by a VERY talented and clever Ford engineer. It was his everyday transport (in fact he still drove 5000 miles in it this year). It is by far the best handling TVR I have EVER driven. It has a boot because apart from his daily driver it was his tow car for his Formula Ford race car so carried tools , spares etc. The boot really is almost Chimaera size with the rear bulkhead capable of being folded down to carry his skis (Cerbera).
The handling was no accident, he was a chassis engineer and this was an expression of his knowledge. There is a file 2" thick of drawings, calcs ( and a few "special bits made by Ford suppliers) etc to arrive at the steering spec. It is totally neutral handling with NO steering kick back, you can literally take your hands off the wheel at any speed and hittin a pot hole produces no steering wheel movement. I can vouch for the superb handling, when I collected it in minus 3 degrees and sheet ice he had to demonstrate how neutral it was at warp speeds on country lanes, thanks Dave.
It has a 2 litre Ford pinto, quite a tall engine and moved forward to give the weight distribution he had calculated, hence the power bulge. 5 speed type 9 gearbox, Sierra Cossie LSD with cv drivshafts. Dual circuit adjustable bias brakes, electric windows that are faster than my BMW, 80,s glass removable roof which can be removed from drivers seat and fits neatly on the huge rear parcel shelf. Advanced heating and ventillation system.
Its ripe for a Zetec or Duratec transplant and some new paint to replace the 42 year old Ford metallic (fade while your painting it) blue.
I was featured quite a lot in TVR Sprint in the 1990,s ( Terminator will be along soon.. he was the editor at the time) to add to its history.
Love it or hate it, it is FABULOUS darling
